Let’s get one thing straight and two things gay

Hey! I’m not dead! Just real fuckin tired!

I’m sure I’ve complained about it here and maybe even on main but I need to get going a second time if only to get it off my chest

The first issue, I’ve seen it before plenty, it’s nothing new, I’m sure anyone who goes into roleplay circles has seen it. As anyone involved in fiction these days knows, there’s a lot of popular m/m ships. As a bisexual woman, I like a lot of these ships. It might seem odd, but they’re comfortable for me because while I can see myself in the characters, I’m comfortable with being a woman and most of them I see comfortable in their masculinity, to whatever extent they are. There’s a division of me and them, but it’s still gay so it makes my little gay heart happy.

But a thing that really….I don’t want to say it pisses me off, but it kind of pisses me off….let’s say it irritates me, is when that gay ship is turned into a straight ship. I’m fully aware and support bisexuals in m/f relationships, and I’m not saying m/f ships are any less valuable or valid. But taking a gay ship and making it straight, it’s not my thing. I legitimately hate it. I’m not here for two boys being turned into a girl and a boy, I’m here for there to be two boys. That’s the intent. And this isn’t about seeing one or both of the characters as any sort of trans or gender fluid, it’s the prompts outright saying it’s just one character is now fem. I hate it. And the fact that normally it’s the more stereotypically “feminine” man? Insanely offensive to me. But that’s whatever, that point is less important than fully turning a m/m ship into a m/f ship. And I feel the same for f/f ships too, like stop taking a gay ship and making it fit in your neat little straight gender roll boxes. If I wanted a m/f ship, I’d be in a tag for an m/f ship. There are plenty of those out there for the fandoms I’m in. I’m not there on purpose!

The second issue tying in with this is about a/b/o. Now listen, I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again, it’s not my cup of tea. I can fully admit that I really don’t like pregnancy, because it’s a real thing for me, it’s something I might go through and I don’t really want to go through it, so I don’t want to have it as a central focus of my fics or roleplays. So mpreg is a big no for me and so is a/b/o simply because it’s usually a part of it or referenced or whatever. But sometimes I’ll give it a shot because hey, why not, it’s good to try new things and if my partner is good then it’ll be worth it. But so many of the prompts I keep seeing are setting it up with those (again) neat little gender boxes of the more feminine character being all submissive and an omega and giving up all sense of agency for the alpha character. I hate it! I hate it so much! It’s one of the big reasons I don’t go into that type of fic and actively cut out that tag! Because you’re taking three dimensional characters and instead of using that trope to fit them, to keep them vivid and real, you’re tucking them into a mold and removing aspects of them that are important pieces. You’re taking a character who’s whole schtick is being witty and strong even after moments of vulnerability and weakness and making them into a cardboard cutout that wilts with the misting of a spray bottle. People like making a character dark, great! You do you! But when every fucking prompt is one character being fem or the same character being an omega and so convoluted that the entire character is essentially missing, that’s a fucking problem!

I’m so tired of it! I ran across maybe ten prompts in an hour of clicking through and of those ten I want to say there was maybe one or two that weren’t making a gay ship fold into the neat little boxes of “this is the man and this is the woman”. If I was dating a woman, I would be so fucking pissed off if I got asked “so which one of you is the man” and that’s essentially what’s being done to these male ships. I. Fucking. Hate. It. If you want a ship of a man and a woman, they’re right there, stop turning a gay ship straight.

It’s exhausting, trying to find a prompt where I’m not immediately clicking away. And fuck it, I’ll say the big one that I’m debating once again deleting my tag on Omegle because I’m so tired of the forced heterosexuality, it’s Stony. I’m so tired of people turning Tony into a woman or a sad little omega who can’t do anything without Steve okaying it. It not only butchers the characters, it’s just so boring. It’s constant. I connect and I read a few words of a prompt and I know it’s either the same person every time or the same couple people because it’s the same few prompts every day. Just on repeat because, I have to assume based on how frequent I see them, no one is actually going through with these prompts. Because why would I be looking for a straight ship in a gay tag.

So in conclusion, I’m gay and tired of my gay ships being made straight. So let’s get one thing straight here (just the one) if I wanted a sanitized m/f relationship where the woman was dull and the man was a copy/paste of an image of toxic masculinity, I’d watch hallmark movies. And let’s get two things gay, the ships as they are, and me, who just wants to see two men be soft and masculine and grow as people in love.

Depends on the muse. But some of the ships I have no interest in are: anything incest (I include Bossk x Boba in this because in my portrayal Bossk was a father figure to Boba), Goran x Women, Medrit x Women, Anyone x Palpatine, Galen x Vader, Maulkie x Vader, Merrin x Fret, Voe x Luke, Tahiri x Luke.

Not many of my muses have popular fandom ships. But here's the ones I know do:

S4bedala: sometimes used for people to self insert on a ship with Padme because they have Sabé sticking around after shit she wouldn't have stuck around for, the fans tend to have a disproportionate hatred for Anakin for no real reason other than that he is the one that ended up with Padme in the end. I had to block two blogs centered around this ship because they popped up with the shinigami eyes tool (TERF detector). Very nice ship when done right (almost never done right).

T4hiri x Anakin Solo: sweet childhood romance that ended in tragedy and fucked her up for life. Beautiful. Would have been even more beautiful if the writers hadn't centered Tahiri's entire arc and personality from that point on around feeling guilty because she refused to give Anakin a kiss before the mission and he ended up blowing himself up with the force.

D1nluke: A crack ship in the sense that it's clearly never going to be canon, the shippers are either the chillest or the most annoying people you'll ever meet, it's a Russian roulette. You have high chances of running into a fic where Din is written like a rough and tough Latino man stereotype, but that's also true for a lot of content involving him romantically/sexually.

Hanl3ia: same issue with D1nluke but this time the ship is canon, the shippers are either super chill or annoying as fuck. Leia is seen as the perfect most special girl who can do no wrong, meanwhile Han is the guy that's lucky to have gotten her to even look at him. Go into a blog centered around this ship and you have a high chance of reading the blandest, most surface level takes on Darth Vader you've ever seen.

Qu1nobi/Ob1quin: Childhood friends to enemies to friends again to star crossed lovers ftw! They complement each other nicely because Obi-Wan is much calmer than Quinlan and Quinlan reminds Obi-Wan to not be so structured all the time. With this ship you're one typo away from ending up in the other ship tag that involves Qui-Gon, so thread carefully.

G4len x Jun0: I like them but sometimes Juno makes me mad. I know she's trying to help Galen most of the time, but her "you're still just Vader's slave" line always pisses me off, that's not how you help an abuse survivor fresh out of the abusive situation, Juno.

G0ran x M3drit: I love them. They're just perfect and complement each other so nicely. They're too kind for the galaxy and situations they live in and I respect that. The only thing that would have made their relationship better would have been adding Boba and making it a polycule.

Technoblade’s purpose in the political narrative of the Dream SMP

I can’t sleep so I decided to finally write the post I’ve been struggling with for literal months, except way more casual because I can’t be bothered anymore and also I’m sleep deprived.

So the thing is: to me the DSMP storyline has always been primarily political, probably because I was introduced to it through Wilbur who was definitely going for political, and also because I’m just generally interested in political narratives right now. Obviously I appreciate the character work and the personal relationship stuff, that’s what makes it more interesting than just dry allegory, but when it comes down to it, this story is about politics to me. So that’s the angle I’m going to approach it from.

Also not to spoil the conclusions here, but I’m an anarchist, that’s my lens.

(Obviously all of this is about rp from here on out unless otherwise specified)

Basically the situation as Techno joins the server is this: L'Manburg exists as an autonomous nation and is de facto independent although not officially recognised by the Dream SMP. The self-appointed president Wilbur Soot decides to hold an election and rig it in order to consolidate his power over the nation he founded and he gets his VP Tommyinnit to join in on the plan. Their scheme fails and they end up voted out instead. The new president, Schlatt, immediately establishes himself as an authoritarian figure and exiles Wilbur and Tommy.

A couple of points on what the election arc demonstrates:

1: the appearance of democracy can be used for distinctly undemocratic purposes.

2: even if the elections aren’t rigged, the electoral system could be massively flawed and end up favouring a party that in fact didn’t have the popular vote

3: even if the winning government (the coalition in this case) has the majority vote, that doesn’t guarantee that they’ll actually act according to the popular will.

4: the supporters of the losing parties basically just have to let the majority overrule their wishes, espcially since apparently L’Manburg doesn’t have an established role for an opposition, yikes. That’s actually a MAJOR oversight in the system but I’m not gonna go into that too much.

5: frankly as an anarchist I am just deeply cynical towards representative democracy, and just because you have a token appearance of choice and consent doesn’t mean that it isn’t a hierarchical and authoritarian system. And to be fair, from my point of view this applies even to so-called liberal democracies and progressive parties. Full disclosure: even if L'Manburg was the ideal example of a representative democracy (which it very much isn’t) I would still be opposed to it because I fundamentally do not believe in top down systems, even electoral ones.

6: despite all these flaws, all the characters seem to implicitly accept the electoral system as legitimate. There’s criticism against the actions of individual characters acting within the system, such as Quackity calling out Wilbur for trying to rig the election, but nobody is questioning the system itself.

So at this point I’m sitting there, watching all this go down, and thinking “man, this would be so much more bearable if there was an anarchist point of view being represented in the story.”

And hey, look who IMMEDIATELY SHOWS UP.

Okay, I’m not gonna lie, early installation Technoblade is not the best representation of anarchism. I was mostly rooting for him out of sheer contrarianism initially. I didn’t really even care if it would be another Killmonger/Magneto/Zaheer situation because I’m used to reading against the authorial intent when it comes to these things. Sometimes any representation is better than no representation, even with political ideologies. That’s not to say that him just straight up spouting this hobbesian notion of a “dog-eat-dog world” didn’t grate on me, obviously it did.

That kind of worldview of humanity needing authority in order to prevent chaos and conflict is literally antithetical to anarchism and is the favourite talking point of authoritarians, the least anarchist people there are. It’s literally what people use to argue AGAINST anarchism. I think it’s mostly because cc!Techno obviously wasn’t particularly educated on anarchist thought and was just basically having fun roleplaying with his friends at this point. Which is frustrating but fair enough I guess.

Cynical ideas about human nature are pretty deeply rooted in the mainstream, unfortunately, most people just consider it common sense. And like I said, it’s a huge talking point in the propaganda against anarchism.

(… even though in fact these arguments were originally used against proponents of representative democracy. Hobbes himself was very much a monarchist, the idea of letting normal people vote for their representatives would have been terrifying to him. Like surely the world would descent into a free-for-all war, all against all. Imagine letting commoners have OPINIONS, the horror.)

So yeah, that stuff was pretty ehhhhh. It was basically what I’d expected though: cc!Techno isn’t an anarchist and we just don’t get accurate representation from non-anarchists, ever. What I dared to hope was that Techno’s character would at least stay consistent about his opposition to ALL governments. I was pretty sure that he would, even though it seemed like the majority of the fandom at the time was convinced that he would switch over to Schlatt’s side or something. It would have been a really shitty twist, I would have ragequit immediately. I mean what would have been the entire point of his character then? He might as well have been a random mercenary. Why even have his character be an anarchist if you were just going to make him work for a government?

(ftr this is kinda my biggest problem with the Hypixel Skyblock revolution event lol, honestly I think that was a worse depiction of anarchism than early DSMP Technoblade. I mean the speech was good, but… still became a government official, tho. booooooooo, cringe)

And yes, I was rooting against L'Manburg, obviously, and I would have even if it had meant having to deal with another badly written anarchist villain character. I never understood why people saw L'Manburg as the good guys, they were nationalist and exclusionary and their whole existence was based on trying to scam people for money.

I mean they were definitely funny, they were great entertainers. I have no problems with people rooting for them because they’re fun to watch; I did that for a bit too. But people were starting to get really into the story and talk about Wilbur and Tommy, the corrupt politicians, and the country that literally excluded people based on nationality as the heroes, unironically, which was wild to me. And when Wilbur started his “villain arc” well: people called it a villain arc, as if he hadn’t been pretty much a bad guy from the beginning, constantly just out for money and power and taking advantage of the people around him and then pretending to be the victim when challenged. I mean yes he got worse, but I wouldn’t call it a villain arc, more like just a mental breakdown arc.

More importantly, to me L'Manburg represented so many things I hate about the status quo in real life, and seeing the fandom mostly unquestioningly accept it as good just pissed me off. Still pisses me off tbh. I mean, to be diplomatic I could say that I understand the emotional attachment and the way L'Manburg was built up mirrors a lot of how real nations are built and how they create a sense of patriotism out of symbols and a sense of honour and loyalty, and it’s actually really fascinating how it even works in a Minecraft roleplay. Says something about the human mind I guess. Doesn’t mean I have to like it though.

Anyway, I just wanted to see literally any kind of opposition to power, even if it had to come from a character that was unquestionably a villain, which I fully assumed Techno would be. Because political narratives so often just leave us out, or at best barely mention us. And even from a narrative point of view, adding an anarchist perspective to a political story just objectively broadens its scope and actually challenges people who are used to only arguing along the lines of conservative or liberal, welfare state or privatization, nationalism or multiculturalism, etc. Even if the original work dealt with it poorly, at least it would give me the excuse to rant about it on Tumblr, which is kinda why I revived my old Minecraft sideblog for this. (That and pig!Techno fanart.)

Also how can you have a story so fundamentally about power without its counterpoint: the rejection of power?

(Yes, Dream SMP as a whole is definitely a narrative about power, it’s a huge theme for Wilbur, Quackity, Dream, Eret and the Badlanders at least, as well as obviously the anarchist characters from the opposite direction.)

So yeah, the build up to November 16th for me was mainly about the anticipation for what Techno would do, how would Techno’s character respond to the seemingly inevitable formation of a new government. THAT was the point of interest for me, that was what I was the most invested in. Would we get an actual anarchist opposition as a new side to the conflict or would they just awkwardly drop that whole angle? Or even have him team up with Schlatt like a complete sellout? There was so much potential but I worried they might just waste it.

And I was right to worry since apparently in the original script Techno wasn’t supposed to do anything, he was just there to help fight Schlatt and witness the explosion along with everyone else.

And WOW that would have been so incredibly boring

Not even just from the political perspective, just talking about the narrative in general terms here: imagine November 16th without Techno’s plot points. Not only would it have been boring for Techno’s character but it would have been equally boring for basically everybody but Wilbur and Philza. An anticlimactic fight followed by a big explosion that pretty much everybody had seen coming already. Yes, the button room scene is dramatic and heartbreaking… for Wilbur and Phil. But nobody else was there to see it. For everybody else, it was just a big explosion. It would have been such a huge disservice to anyone watching the other POVs.

Techno’s intervention gave everyone an ACTUAL climactic fight, it allowed characters other than Wil and Phil to witness some actual drama happening and to participate in it, rather than just waiting around for the explosion, while also foreshadowing the explosion. Even better, it provoked SO MUCH discussion in the fandom AND gave a perfect hook for future conflicts to arise. Wilbur’s end was tragic but it was, at the time, final. L'Manburg would have still suffered a catastrophe but it would have been left with just the same exact antagonist as before: Dream.

And at this point Dream’s core goals had barely changed, just his approach was now different. Yes, that makes a difference for the plot, but it doesn’t really change much in terms of ideological conflict. Especially since there really isn’t that big of an ideological difference between Dream and Tommy, because arguably neither of them are particularly big on ideology in the first place, they just have conflicting goals and use different tactics to achieve those goals (well, the tactics aren’t always even that different *cough Spirit cough*).

Techno’s conflict with Tubbo and especially Quackity (and honestly most of the other characters in general) brings in so much more depth to the story, just by introducing another angle, not to even mention how much it brings to focus questions about power and violence. These are themes that exist in other characters’s storylines too but nowhere in the same way or as central as with Techno.

I’m getting kind of ahead of myself here, though.

The real twist of November 16th was the fact that Techno WASN’T a straight up villain, actually. It was a twist to me anyway, because with all my cynicism I just didn’t see it coming, I didn’t expect him to actually start making reasonable criticisms. I didn’t expect him to drop the hobbesian arguments entirely and start making points that actually sounded like anarchism.

I have to assume that cc!Techno must have seen some of the criticisms of his character and been inspired to adjust because the difference is pretty notable.

(Sidenote: I’m just forever kinda sad that Techno’s “I may seem like the villain here” monologue was cut from the video and most people never heard it.)

And I felt SO validated by the way, because it works so well in the story! Everyone is mostly content with the restoration of a status quo of some sort, Schlatt is gone, this is supposed to be the good ending, and then Techno calls them all out and turns the narrative around completely: This was just a coup d'état. This was just the previous political leadership retaking power by force. Why is everyone celebrating the same exact system that lead to Schlatt’s authoritarian rule in the first place?

What he does there is force the audience to question the narrative they’ve been presented so far, that they’ve accepted without a thought. It might not convince them, but they can’t just ignore it either.

Whatever you wanna say about the discourse around Techno on that day, in the ideological narrative THIS IS THE IMPORTANT PART. Not who betrayed who or when is political violence justified, that’s about personal relationships and morality and it’s mostly all more relevant to the aftermath than the event itself. In my opinion, the REAL point in the moment is that the characters and the audience were comfortable with the ending only to be presented with a completely new perspective on the events.

It also recontextualises the finale, including Wilbur’s actions! It’s a much more ambiguous end to the Pogtopia vs Manburg arc and to Wilbur’s original run as the head writer. Wilbur’s “even with Tubbo in charge I don’t think [that ‘special place’] can exist again” is vague enough to be dismissed as just part of his paranoia and internal conflict, but with Techno, there’s a concrete question: what if Tubbo, given the same powers as Schlatt, will turn out to be just a new Schlatt? And suddenly you have to wonder what Wilbur meant by his words too. And was all this foreshadowing something about L’Manburg’s future?

Okay I’ve only made it to November 16th and there’s so much more DSMP to talk about but the post is getting too long and I’m starting to lose my energy. Will I ever make a part two? No idea. But I’ll try.

So, I once made a post about c!Tommy and c!Dream’s relationship throughout season 1 (which you can find here), but today I was thinking, why not do the same for the Exile Arc?

There are some people that still don’t seem to have a comprehensive idea of what actually went down during that time (either because they joined the fandom afterwards or haven’t watched it at the time) so I’ll try to do that here. I’ll cover the first 2 streams here, and then continue in the next part because this is gonna be way too damn long otherwise...

As always I’ll be talking only about the characters and the roleplay from here on out and also I’ll be touching on some very heavy topics under the cut (such as gaslighting and abuse). Also this is gonna be another one of my Overly Long Analysis, so... you know... be warned of that.

I’ll be going through this vod by vod, so It will be so long... God why do I always do this to myself?

Let’s start with TommyInnit Is Exiled From The Dream SMP... which is the vod when Tommy actually get’s exiled.

So, the exile scene per se has been covered a 100 times over, but, right after Tubbo asking Dream to “please detain and excort Tommy out of my country” Dream yeets Tommy off the walls and then he immediately establishes the general idea of how it’ll be in exile: “I don’t think you wanna die Tommy. You need to- to listen to me”.

Also it is to be noted that in this “exile” time and time again Dream establishes arbitrary rules that were most certanly not meant in the initial sentence (which is why it’s much more of a kidnapping then an actual exile). Starting from before they even leave L’Manburg completely. In fact when they are still in the vc with the others and still just down from the obsidian walls, Tommy and Dream have this exchange:

“Do I have any time to speak words? What can...” “NO. NO. NO. NO!” “what the...” 

And then right after (just after leaving the vc):

“Do you have food?” “Yeah...” “Good, we’ll be going a long while still” “Am I not allowed- well surely- surely I’m only exiled from L’Manburg-” “Oh, no no no. You’re exiled from everywhere that’s been touched”

The sentence was only for him to be exiled from L’Manburg. Dream theoretically only had authority over the Greater Dream smp in any case, so how come immediately Tommy’s “sentence” becomes being exiled from “everywhere that has been touched”? What authority did Dream have to exile him from the Badlands? Or the Holy Grounds (considering those are widely considered neutral)?

This is from right after Ghostbur joins them:

“Well, I don’t- I don’t have to come with you” “Well, I mean, I’ll kill you” (...) "I don’t have to follow you! I don’t-” “Tommy! Then I’ll just kill you. What happens if I kill you?” “I die...”

Again, technically Tubbo only asked Dream to escort Tommy out of his country, not all the way to his place of exile. Tommy here is right, he is exiled, he is not supposed to have a jailor going with him, he is not supposed to be imprisoned. All he supposedly had to do was get off the lands he wasn’t allowed into and then he’d be good. Of course Dream’s plans were different there.

Also the trend of constantly undermining anything Tommy is feeling at any given moment sure doesn’t stop with the Exile Arc! 

“No, no! I don’t want to head anywhere! I wanna to go back! I wanna go back!” “Fine fine, we’ll head this way then. It’s fine, this is fine” “I don’t wanna go!” “Tommy come on...”

Honorable mention to Dream talking about the first time he exiled Tommy:

“Do you remember- this is actually funny! Do you remember the first time you ever joined the server? And uhm... you got exiled? By me?” “Yeah?” “It’s kinda like that, except now if you don’t listen you die”

And the conditioning begins all the way here, with Dream trying to decide Tommy’s emotions for him:

“Oh... I hate you” “*laughs* Okay Tommy, you don’t hate me” “No, no I definitely do” “Noooo, you don’t hate me”

Cue Dream just blowing up Tommy’s second Summer Home after he explained that it was supposed to be a safe haven for him and Tubbo. Also note that Dream is already getting rid of any mob attacking Tommy even if at this point he still had armour and weapons to defend himself. I talked about this before, but Dream does seem to want Tommy to be as dependent on him as he is on Tommy, which is why during exile he made him dependent on him for protection/safety and company and in prison for food. Also Ghostbur going: “I don’t think this man is very nice...”, thank you Ghostbur, I wish you could remember that, but you’re trying your best and I appreciate it...

“How long is- how long am I exiled for? When can I just go back?” “You can’t (...) if you go back you die”

Again, not Dream’s decision to make. Tubbo was the one exiling Tommy meaning that, if Tubbo actually had the decision power in that istance, Tubbo was the one who should have decided when he could come back. Also, again reiterating the point from before:

“I thought I was only banished from L’Manburg, that was the deal, not the entirety of the smp-” “Oh no. No you’re banished far enough where they don’t see you”

Also, a little look into Tommy’s mentality here:

“Tubbo said he wasn’t thinking with emotion, but with reason, but: what the fuck is the point if there isn’t any- any emotion?!”

This is honestly why he is Dream’s exact opposite and probably why he finds him fun, while Tubbo is irrelevant to him. Tommy thinks emotions should always be taken into account when making decisions and he values sentimentality over everything. Dream is the opposite, to him emotions are irrelevant and sentimentality is a weakness. Tubbo is a bit of both, which makes his clash of ideologies with Dream a lot less evident. 

Anyway, they get to the island and Dream builds Tommy a dirt shack for him to set his spawn into. And then there is the first istance of Dream taking all of Tommy’s stuff (building blocks and food included) and blowing it up. Which, again, is in no way an actual exile condition. Tommy is in jail basically. He got kidnapped and now he is in jail. Also right after that Dream gives them food and obsidian (of course acting like he is doing them a big favour, when he actually just created that need), which Tommy bromptly refuses, later burning the obsidian.

Also Dream’s parting words here are: “I’ll see you never”. Which couldn’t be less true! There is quite a bit more after that, of Tommy and Ghostbur settling in, finding a ruined portal with some armour and the village nearby and Techno visiting, but this is about c!Dream and c!Tommy and it’s already incredibly long as is, so maybe I’ll talk about everything else another time...

Onto the next one: Tommy Is Alone in Exile with Dream...

This stream starts off with Bad visiting Tommy to give him a few presents (which consist of Chirp, 2 diamonds, an enderchest, and almost dead diamond pick with silk touch, some coocked chicken some bones and a few stacks of oak wood logs). Also Tommy sees Logsteshire for the first time. Then Dream arrives and he is not happy about the present (something something, having other people giving Tommy useful stuff would make him less reliant on Dream). Also Bad seems to be slightly scared of Dream since he immediately tells Tommy that he should not say that any of the stuff he gave him was from him. Anyway, Dream destroys everything, but Tommy, with Bad’s help, manages to save Chirp. Here’s their exchange in this scene of course:

“Tommy?” “Yes! Yes?!” “Do you have uh... something you wanna put on the floor here?” “Yes *throws in 3 red concrete blocks*” “Anything else Tommy?” “No! You’re evil by the way, you’re an evil man-” “Come on... I know there is something else you wanna drop down here...” “No there-... *gives disk to Bad* I don’t reckon there is!” “Okay are you sure...?” “Yes!” “Alright... how about uh- how about your armour Tommy?” “No this is- I actually earned this myself” “I know you did! Just drop it in the hole Tommy” “No, no! You can’t just come and demand things from me! I’ve been exiled, I’ve done your shit! What- what do you mean-” “Tommy~” “What?” *Dream hits Tommy with an enchanted netherite axe* “Drop them down~” “Hooooo okay okay okay!”

So, in case anyone was wondering, physical abuse is there as well. And this is fully depicted as physical abuse. Like, normally, with this being Minecraft, it is implied that violence is generally inconsequential, here though c!Tommy reacts to it clearly in pain and shock. There is no doubt there. 

Sapnap arrives at this point as well. After that Dream makes it a point that Tommy cannot have the enderchast that Bad gave him because you can never have enough random arbitrary rules when kidnapping someone apparently! 

“Why are you here? Why are you here? What- what could you- what could you possibly want more from me? You’ve tortured me-” “I’m just! I’m just... keeping an eye on you Tommy” 

I’ve highlighted this because, considering the last time Dream was there he said he would never see Tommy again, Tommy’s confusion here is more then understandable. But of course Dream acts like it’s obvious that he would be there and that it’s necessary to make sure that Tommy is not “up to no good”. Also, another extremely important exchange: 

“You’ve exiled me you stupid manipulative green bastard!” “Yeah I know! I know! And you know why I did that” “Yes? Yes?” “No, you know why” “Why?” “Because you don’t listen to me ever. You’re the only person who doesn’t ever listen to me (...) listen, you are like a little annoying bug in my room and it pisses me off so I take you and I put you outside and that’s what I did. And now I’m just making sure that you stay outside”

So... the bullshit about this being about George’s house is out of the window by the first proper exile stream. Also Dream goes in the ever increasing list of villains who, if annoyed enough, will reveal all their evil plans to the protagonist. Like Tommy screaches enough and Dream will immediately go in evil monologuing mode...

“So what do you actually want from me then?” “Well nothing, I’m just here to talk to you. Tommy, we’re still friends ok? Just because I exiled you doesn’t mean we’re not friends-” “Just because I killed your friends and family doesn’t mean we can’t be bros...” “Well, it’s true!”

Ok so, it’s confirmed that Dream would still go on with this “friendship” facade even if he killed Tubbo or Wilbur then. Also:

*Tommy sees a creeper* then in the most monotone tone ever: “Help me” Dream sprinting from the other side of the cave: “TOMMY!”. I love this scene and I love this two dumbasses (and I mean the cc’s here). Also, to go back to the serious stuff: once again Dream is the one killing every single mob around Tommy because he blew up all his means for defence. Also Bad and Sapnap are still there as well, but Dream is always the on interveening (mostly because he is the one following Tommy around more closely). I’ll have a few of the more interesting quotes here afterwards until the next interesting scene:

“If I had 8 legs I would fuck you all up” “Oooh, no you wouldn’t” (Dream de-valuing Tommy’s anger once again)

“Stop following me” “NO” “Well okay then...” (honestly this was just funny...)

“Can I call you Wilbur? Or is it Ghostbur...?” “You can call me whatever you like” (for those saying that Ghostbur not correcting Tommy was weird)

“Alright Wilbur, what do you need an enderchest for? I might make an exception but-” “We- we need it so that we can access our stuff from the old world, the old world” “But not to go back” “How would we be able to go back with an enderchest?” “Well I don’t know maybe there is stuff in there that’s... better” “Tommy do you have anything that could get you to go back? In the enderchest?” “A boat? What’d you mean?” “Yeah to be honest we just need wood to get back, it’s not really-” 

Here we have Ghostbur poking holes in one of the new rules that Dream added that day. As a matter of fact, why would an enderchest be dangerous? Tommy mostly keeps sentimental stuff in there and a bit of iron. Still that’s the whole point: Dream is trying to get Tommy under his control so he needs to bring him to a point where he’ll listen to his orders even when they don’t make any actual sense. Also, btw, Dream doesn’t actually give them an enderchest after this exchange.

“Do you want to come with me Tommy? Do you want to come with me and visit the old library?” “No no no” “Yes! Yes please!” “No he wants to stay here with me” “I don’t. I definitely don’t” “He does! He’s just trying to be nice to you Wilbur. He’s trying to be nice to you” “I’m not Wilbur, I want to come with you” (way to gaslight an amnesiac ghost...)

“So how long is Tommy supposed to be here?” “Like a week?” “Oh, a week is not bad!” “*laughing* No he’s here forever” (Like goddamn, imagine if every minor griefing was punished with permanent exile!)

“M-maybe like- does Tommy gets like visitations? Like once every month he get’s to go to L’Manburg-” “No! No no no” “No visitation, huh?” “No visitation” (well, let’s thank Sapnap for trying...)

So, after this Tommy gets his plan to go through the Nether and find a quick way to and from L’Manburg to, perhaps, sneak in unnoticed at some points. Dream “allows” him here to go to the Nether (even though technically there is no reason why the exile would extend to there as well), so they get to work on fixing a ruined portal. “Did you know, I apparently blew up a nation and killed everyone” (thank God we have Ghostbur, he makes everything better). One thing I want to note though: at this point Tommy still kills the mobs attacking him when Dream is not stalking him and doing it for him, which is kind of nice. We are still at the first exile stream though...

“Can I go back for like an hour and see all my friends?” “No, they can come here though. I-I mean Tommy, I think- I think that someone could come here and visit you, but you can’t ever go back. Like I-I don’t have anything against people coming here and visiting you if they want to. They don’t HAVE to, but they can if they really want to” “Tommy think of it this way: whenever you’re in prison you can’t just go and visit your friends, but they can come and visit you” “They can come and visit you, yeah, that’s actually a very- that’s a perfect analogy”

I wonder why the best analogy for Tommy’s situation is not a f*cking exile analogy, but actual prison. Maybe because he is confined to one place, not allowed to keep any personal items and never allowed to go back? Also they actually get to Nether hub at this point and there is the famous scene with Tommy looking at the lava: 

A curious thing about this scene (aside from being a clear indication of the beginning of Tommy’s depressive spiral) is both that Dream didn’t seem to particularly care about Tommy dying up until now (and in the future as well) as long as he is the one to kill him. Meaning that he seemed fine with it as long as he had control over it. And yet at the end there he agrees with Tommy’s statement of “it’s never my time to die” which kinda makes me think that Dream by this point was already entirely set on his idea of Tommy needing to be alive for Dream to control the whole server. Tommy and Dream head back to Logstedshire after this scene.

*Tommy looks at the lava while standing very close to the edge* “I’ll go back through just to... check and see” *Dream hits Tommy away from the edge* “Come on” *Tommy goes back to the edge and Dream pushes him away again, this time covering the hole* “It’s not your time to die yet Tommy” “It’s never my time to die” “That’s true” 

“Home sweet home...” “Home sweet home. I think it’ll be good! People might visit you all the time, I mean, I can visit you! It’s- it’s actually fun to come here! It’s a little bit- it’s a change of scenery, you know?” “It’s not fun to be stuck here” “Well... you’re not ’stuck’ it’s your vacation home!” “Can I go back? I’m ready...” “No but you can leave this area, you can go somewhere else. This is just- like, I took you far away, you can go further if you want”

So, if anyone is wondering, this is not, in fact, Dream giving Tommy more freedom. Especially considering that when Tommy does leave Logstedshire later on Dream literally hunts him down, so no, that was never an option. What Dream is doing here is make himself sound benevolent by comparison by telling Tommy that the only other options he has are worse since they are even further away.

“I’m here for a good time, not for a long time” (more hints towards Tommy’s depressive spiral)

“Guys how do you know when it’s too much?” (and again)

“Can I go and see the tree?” “Tommy, you can’t go and see the tree” “Dream why don’t you let him just- it’s not in L’Manburg! Why don’t you let him just see the tree and then escort him back?” 

Ghostbur my beloved, pointing out holes in Dream’s rules all the time. Something tells me that’s the reason why Dream tried to kill him later on...

Anyway! This concludes this first post because it’s... Oh fuck this is REALLY long.... welp! I’ll make the others in the next few days!

FINALLY…ANOTHER C!ERYN CONSPIRACIST…I also want to see his lowkey Dream apologism go somewhere so bad. Like I’m not holding out Too much hope since cc!Eryn’s given every indication of taking lore pretty facetiously (which is fine, plenty of server members make it work for them), but even so…I am thinking about c!Dream getting a protege so much. I am rotating c!Eryn in my mind I am looking at them under my microscope, and so forth

yesssss i'm so glad other people have the same thoughts as me on this!! tbf i've not watched much of eryn's pov specifically (there's too many damn videos to watch in this fandom) so i've only seen him in other people's - and it's been hard for me to tell whether he's taking a very light-hearted approach to lore, or whether he's just struggling to get his foot in the door on a number of levels roleplay-wise and is angling for a kind of arrogant, i-don't-care, everything's-a-joke asshole young man type character (which! i would love to see! i love characters that throw their weight around with nothing to back it up! see also: quackity, except quackity's arrogance is very carefully constructed as a front, and eryn's seems like it's more the cockiness of youth).

i so so badly want eryn as dream's protegé though. it would work so well, especially since he and tommy have so much history, and there's already the groundwork in place of a) him being fascinated by and drawn to dream, and b) tommy not actually telling him anything about his history with dream, and c) eryn being either pissed off with tommy about this or assuming this means the history is trivial. and i do love a good friends/brothers-to-rivals arc - i keep thinking of eragon and murtag from the brisingr cycle. that's the kind of dynamic i desperately want. will we get it? probably not. but i can dream...

Get green man out of prison

To clarify before this starts, Dream is my favourite character. This doesn’t mean I am a c!Dream apologist, but I am sympathetic to his motivations. Objectively, he’s done horrible things, and he needs to be in prison with a life sentence, but looking at all the things that’s come out of this prison arc--

c!Dream needs to leave prison NOW. All this shit that’s been happening hasn’t been excusable since we found out Sam was abusing him in prison and it’s just getting worse.

Before y’all come at me with “but Dream designed the prison to be that way so he deserves it”. Consider this: if we are justifying the “hero’s” actions because that’s something the villain would have done, then maybe we need to think long and hard about how much of a “hero” this character truly is.

As much as we want to see Dream get his comeuppance, nothing he did justifies TORTURE. Treating him as sub-human is beyond wrong and doesn’t help ANYBODY. When he gets out, he’ll only be worse, and all of you are just gonna use his actions after this arc as justification to continue viewing him as the Devil incarnate.

An eye for an eye and the world goes blind, right?

Overall, I need this season to come to a point where the other characters (especially Quackity) finally acknowledge that Dream wasn’t the root of ALL problems on the server. They need to see that they themselves also have “villainous” sides to them, and that they’ve also caused conflict. I need their righteous fucking high horses to be shot down. They need to reflect and grow from this in a positive direction.

I have many thoughts about different characters so I’ll put a break here. Continue if you want to, I just need somewhere to vent

QUACKITY-- he’s done the exact same things Dream has. That’s not even up for debate at this point. Yes, it was to a lesser extent, but his entire character is that he wants power, and he’ll do almost anything to get it. Sounds familliar?

Well now you’re asking me: “why do you hate him and not Dream?” 

Because Dream at least knows he’s the monster. Quackity doesn’t get to go to Dream and act all righteous and mighty in front of him, as if he’s not just as bad as Dream is. I’d even argue that HE’S A BETTER MANIPULATOR, because LITERALLY EVERYONE on the server has fallen for his heroic act. His behaviour just pisses me off to no end.

SAM-- listen. His character may be kinder than others, but he’s not as good of a person as the fandom paints him to be just because he sounds soft. He was neglectful of Tommy’s safety when he got trapped in the prison, and he’s willingly going against Dream’s safety now. Heck, he literally supported Quackity’s plan to torture Dream, and he abused Dream beforehand. 

No matter how bad the prisoner was, it’s Sam’s DUTY as a guard to keep him safe, just as it’s his duty to keep him contained.

He sure picks and chooses which rules he follows, doesn’t he? 

What does he think he’s going to accomplish by treating Dream like this? He’s literally affirming Dream’s belief that the only way to be safe on the server is to have power. 

PUFFY-- I don’t watch Puffy’s streams often, so correct me if I’m wrong. I think she’s a pretty good character, but of course there are flaws to her that I think she needs to grow from. I hear she said that she wants to be a therapist, but that she won’t give Dream therapy because she believes he doesn’t deserve it. Newsflash, Puffy, everyone deserves the chance to go to therapy. I love how casually you’re dismissing his trauma.

If anyone needs therapy the most on the server, it’s Dream.

Why do I prioritize Dream’s therapy arc over Tommy’s? Because Dream’s trauma tends to manifest in a way that gets everyone around him hurt or killed. Once he leaves prison, it’s just going to hurt more people. 

(Don’t tell me Dream doesn’t have any trauma. When the server began, Dream was THE mediator, he was THE pacifist. Clearly all wars and conflict that went on changed him into the person he is now.)

DREAM-- Dream’s been a scapegoat ever since Wilbur painted him as the villain in the first war. But I do not believe he was a villain until season 2 began. In short, I am a season 1 Dream apologist and a season 2 Dream sympathizer. 

While Quackity parallels Dream in all his terrible actions, I think Ranboo’s Dream’s parallel in the sense that Ranboo is what Dream could have been.

Both Ranboo and Dream began as pacifists who were forced into facing war and conflict. Ranboo was able to handle it in a healthier way, and it allowed his character to grow in a positive direction despite his trauma. Dream was painted as the villain, and instead of proving everyone wrong, said fuck it and fell into the role.

I really hope Dream isn’t beyond changing his world view. While I know the writer probably won’t go down this route, I would love to see him navigate the hardships in order to escape the role of a villain. Granted, if he ever gets a “redemption arc”, it must be handled in a very carful manner, and he should have to work hard for it.

Jesus Christ I wrote a whole essay. I doubt anyone made it this far down, but I’d be happy to have a civil discussion in my asks or replies. Let’s roleplay English majors. I wanna talk

My take on the Jack Manifold being killed by Tommy discussions

This is written so someone who isnt caught up can understand, so lets start at the beginning, Jack Manifolds ad Tommys relationship. Irl Jack and Tommy are very close, but I don’t think they had a strong established relationship in character before exile, especially because Jack was mia for a lot of lore? Many relationships on the smp get taken from the ccs dynamics before the smp (wilbur and tommys mentor/brotherhood, puffychus date), which is why they have been interpreted as close? Jack was part of lmanburg and they have interacted for sure, so I think its fair to say they were friends in roleplay, even if not like,, best friends

during exile, jack visited Tommy- well, tried to visit. Tommy punched him off the bridge in the nether and made sure he died. Jack lost all his stuff and was pissed offed - but that was about it.

The tone of the visit could maybe be compared to the one with Mamacita and Mexican Dream? It was in character, but it wasn’t... serious?

It feels wrong to call it “friendly banter” when mexican dream died, but you cant call it a “Building Character Moment For TommyInnit” either. Jacks visit was similar.

At that point, neither Jack nor Tommy refered to the death as “canon” - the wiki did, however. Not sure what happend there, but it was listed as Jacks second death and when he died on Doomsday, went to hell and back - that part of lore doesn’t work without Tommy killing him.

After Jack came back from hell, he started a bigger character arc with Niki revolving around taking revenge on tommyinnit. Killing him until he is dead permanently. And while that is not presented as the right thing to do - both niki and jack consider their characters villains - its not irrational or without motive.

Tommy has made mistakes and hurt people - whether these were justified is in the eye of the beholder.

For Jacks arc right now, Tommy killing him is an important motivator and a driving point for his plot. Nothing about Jacks current character would be the same without it. Because he acknowledged the death and it was on the wiki for the longest time, its generally considered canon by the fandom.

So, case closed? Tommy killed a man while depressed in exile- yeah, that doesn’t sound right.

I’m not sure they would appreciate me mentioning their username here, but ive read their analyses before and theyre great, they have a lot of interesting thoughts, and i agree with them bringing this up!! please never send hate to anyone about character analysis!! some people (like me) actually do this for fun.

so, i dont want to touch exileinnit to much, there is a lot to talk about, but... TommyInnit would kill somebody without a second thought. Canon deaths are heavy, theyre big, theyre- and you cannot compare this to punz killing wilbur! Yeah, that wasnt a big character moment for punz, but on one hand hes a mercenary, killing people is kind of part of his job, and on the other hand- the story around lmanburg is not a character focused one, thats a big part of wilburs writing. His main goal is progressing the geopolitical plot and let the character be shaped by it - themes like personal conflict seem less big when there is the fate of a country on your hands.

The exile arc is an entirely character focused story. It deals with themes like mental illness and inner turmoil... do you think it would pass the chance on discussing tommys feelings about killing someone? A past friend, no less?

Murdering someone, on purpose, completly changes the morality of tommys character, and im not ready to commit to that.

There are more reasons I think this, ask me to elaborate if you want, but in my eyes there is no way that Tommy could kill someone in exile with it still being consistent with his character.

So, whats the conclusion?:

TommyInnit killing Jack Manifold is canon in Jacks story, but isn’t canon in Tommys. There is no other way eithers devolopment makes sense otherwise.

This is it. An inconsistency. A plain old plothole.

Oh no, the cinematic masterpiece (/s) that is the dream smp has a plothole, what do we do now?:

...move on? There is no way discussing this will change anything. This type of inconsistency is unique to the dream smp as a medium where the creators have a direct dialogue with the fanbase. This is not the first or last time the wiki has made weird deaths canon, I personally disagree that quackity and schlatt died in the explosion of tubbos execution. This doesnt do against the wiki writers or anything, you guys are so important for this community, but you do stand in direct contact with the creators - an active fan would have probably more, but more importantly different, knowledge of the lore than 90% of the members.

Dont be harsh on the fans, dont be harsh on the ccs, we are exploring a new type of mass reaching story telling here guys.

how do we still make this consistent for the storyline?:

this is where the analysis ends, we are diving more into headcanon territory, but I choose to believe that this was a canon death, but tommy didnt realize it is. In my opinion this just feeds into Jacks themes of being ignored, not taken seriously, etc.

tldr: while tommy killing jack was considered canon for a long time, it doesnt work if you want to have tommys character make sense. Instances like this, where dubious canon gets reinterpreted later happen because of the dream smps unique type of storytelling and should not be a reason for conflict in the fandom.

2: Do you have any controversial headcanons that go against what is generally accepted by the fandom? Do you incorporate this into writing your muse or keep it to yourself?

Oh I don’t really know how to answer this. I left the fandom after season 7 and I only now became active again once the series was over. Since then I’ve tried to avoid fandom because it’s insanely toxic. My point is, avoiding fandom means I don’t know if my opinions would be considered controversial. 

HAH! What a lie! Everything’s a goddamn controversy in this sh*thole hahaha.

Um, but yeah anyway. This isn’t anything new if you’ve followed me for a little while - I don’t really ship Sam with anyone in-canon. I don’t like him with Eileen. I know people seem to love her and I don’t mind her at all. But man do I not ship it. I especially don’t like when Sam is pushed into romantic relationship just to be used as a plot device (AMELIA ANYONE EW). *cough* I’m good. I’m fine............................

That being said, the perks of writing/roleplaying is that something can be very shipable when you can explore the relationship more. Like I kinda effing love SamxRuby? Because the potential if things had gone differently is too awesome not to like? SamxJess - they’re cute in canon, but we don’t get much of them for it to be much to ship. And I haven’t written it yet either, but it’s a canon ship I would like to write.

I know, not shipping much in this fandom that seems to be all about it. Wouldn’t you consider that controversal? lol.

I haven’t written Sam really that long this time around yet so I don’t think I have much to answer here. The closest thing I can say though is Sam’s powers. Of course that is canon material, but the fact that that whole storyline was just dropped after season 5 KILLS ME. I hate the writers so much for abandoning it like that. You have a show called SUPERNATURAL and one of your main characters has SUPERNATURAL POWERS and you’re just going to IGNORE THAT!!! Ahem. As you can see this pisses me off. Why do you think I (for the most part) hate the last half of the show? 

But yeah, while I haven’t written much of Sam using his powers post s5 as of yet I have many plans because that’s how shit should have gone down and that’s that.

★ How I feel about this character [I have a lot of feelings about Goku. He may not be my favorite character of the series, I like him for what he is. At least pre Super (it’s a pattern you see). I won’t go into THOSE details here, but Goku is a fun character, pretty much quintessential goofy hero type. He does have his complications and does have to make some tough decisions but, as heroes do, he DOES get it pretty easy compared to other characters. Not saying he doesn’t work for the power he has but...he certainly gets far more opportunities to reach new heights. The perks of being savior of the Earth and Universe, huh?

My favorite iteration of him is in DBZ, where I think they balance him out and show his growth as a person and character the best. He has more depth than people and canon really allow him to have, which is a shame. Which is where roleplay blogs come in! *jazz hands*]

★ All the people I ship romantically with this character [I’mma get judged really hard. REALLY not necessarily anyone, but I’m a sucker for a rival ship in Goku and Vegeta. I could vent all day about the shit writing when it comes to the canon ships but I won’t here. But for these two? I feel like the framework is pretty much there and their relationship DOES get developed (not romantically but you know...better than the canon ships get). They are opposites, but they’re compatible opposites. They understand and support each others wants and desires, and can even help the other REACH those goals. And romantic is a strong word but pfff. ★ My non-romantic OTP for this character [Goku and Krillin hands down. Their friendship is so friggin wholesome in Dragonball and the first bits of Z. Obvs I haven’t see all of Super so MAYBE they show some in that (I know there’s the scene where Krillin asks Goku to punch him which was pretty funny and a good moment) but man. They really let that friendship fall to the wayside. I get they both had their own lives, especially after Krillin got married and started his own family, but man. It was such good shit.]

A (sizeable) rant/essay concerning my experiences in the Tumblr JJBA fandom.

None of you asked to hear this, but I’m getting pretty pissed off at some people in particular (I will not name names, though I may heavily implicate some people) and it’s finally started to kinda spill over. So I’m letting it spill; take it or leave it.

I’m... Fairly irate at the moment, and writing out my feelings does tend to help me calm down in situations like this, so if I was going to put this anywhere the best place for it is probably on the public internet. Again, take it or leave it: this is the internet, you don’t have to interact with me if this concerns you or your ideals. If you want me to summarise (I know not everyone wants/is able to read a fluffed-up pillar of text) or explain my reasoning behind anything I’ve said below the cut, feel free to direct message me here or on Discord @nati bati yi#1462. (Before I say anything else, this is not intended to be a callout in any way, shape or form. I don’t mention the specific names of anybody, and the actions I do mention here will only point to specific people if you know them too. Anyone on the outside should have zero idea of who anyone I bring up is; I do not want anyone to get harassed over this, and I very much do not want to start drama - that’s what inspired me to go off and write this hunk of garbage in the first place. I’m just... Sick to death of the fandom as a whole.)

Anyway. Here we go.

From what I’ve been able to tell, being in this fandom for just under a year now, there are two main halves to it: the gay-hating, stale-meme-parroting dudebro side, who seem to mostly congregate around YouTube and Reddit, and... Whatever the side based on Tumblr (and probably now Twitter) is. I don’t spend a lot of time on Reddit, so naturally I’ve been more exposed to the Tumblr side of the fandom, and after experiencing the ideals some people here want to force on other people I’ve come to the conclusion I’d almost rather be immersed in the bigoted dudebro side. And I say this as an ace-spec/gay trans man.

I’ll start with the blocklist.

I think most of us on Tumblr came to the conclusion that the blocklist was utter bullshit, but I did see a few people in a Discord server I have since left (I will expand on this later) defending the reasoning behind some ships being on there, citing the fact they had been abused in a relationship with a similar age gap. I can definitely see why that would bother a person, and I do not want to erase the fact that people have been and will be abused in similar relationships, but you can’t project your singular experience onto every fictional, non-canon character relationship and every person who ships it. For one, not every relationship is going to turn out the same just because it meets this one criteria of “the age gap is too big”, and, also, you don’t have to write fiction to totally reflect reality. You are in full creative control. Maybe if the characters were real people they wouldn’t click, but if you’re drawing a picture or writing a fanfic you don’t have to go along with that. You can write them so that they’re good to each other, while still keeping it in character. Araki has said that Jotaro and Kakyoin’s personalities don’t work together very well, and that they wouldn’t have become friends or even spoken to each other if Jotaro wasn’t a Stand user... But Jotaro/Kakyoin just happens to be the most-written about JJBA ship on AO3. Me? I love Jotakak. It’s about the only thing I do ship. And I’ve read some quite frankly amazing fanfiction where the two boys are paired and they work together, and it’s still very much in character. Of course, I’m very much against loli/shota content or content depicting characters who don’t look very old- if someone drew Koichi in a sexual situation I would be pissed as all hell, but I don’t have to engage with that content any further. I can just filter out the tag/block the OP and move on. You don’t need to make a fuss and tell/imply to people that they are paedophilic for enjoying well-written content where a 17-year-old is in a healthy relationship with a 22-year-old, platonic or otherwise.

My second point brings in some of the things I’ve learned while studying media this past year. My main point here: not everyone in an audience is the same. There is a reason differential decoding and the uses and gratifications theory exist. The uses and gratifications theory states, at its most basic, that the audience of a media text is active, not passive; i.e. they are not just absorbing every piece of data thrown at them by the text they are consuming, and they are consuming different media to satisfy a need- for JJBA, that need could be entertainment, escapism, identifying with a character similar to yourself or to give you something to talk about with your friends. Differential decoding arises when someone consuming a piece of the media does not entirely go along with the creator’s preferred reading of it- an example might be how a sizeable amount of people enjoy villainous or “disgusting” characters such as Dio, Cioccolata, Stroheim or Melone, when they were clearly written in canon to be abhorrent, unlikable people for varying reasons. I can also say that, because the audience is active, and consume media based on their personal needs, that somebody writing fanfic of a ship you don’t like isn’t going to make incest or paedophilia more socially acceptable. I don’t consume that content, because I don’t feel the need to. Sure, real paedos might, but they’re a minority. Just because a couple hundred people or so read a fanfic on the free web where a grown adult does the dirty with a little kid, doesn’t mean to say everyone in the world will suddenly start thinking it’s ok. Mention it to any sane person in real life and they will not like that idea any more than you do.

And my third point is more a personal thing than anything else, but there is a community I used to be part of (and was part of almost from the beginning) where I didn’t feel welcome because of people causing drama over things like what I mentioned above. I started multiple discourses entirely by accident by saying I didn’t understand why everyone though X ship was horribly problematic and worth getting mad at people over. I still don’t feel like anyone deserves to be harassed over characters and ships they enjoy, but that doesn’t mean to say I support all of it. Along with generally feeling ignored by a lot of the moderators of that server, as well as their friends, I was just sick to death of how they seemed to single out some certain people to say, “hey, don’t do this” when other people seemed exempt. I was verbally warned for posting innuendos in a general chat (but it’s not like I could anywhere else on the server, because I’m not 18 yet), but at least once every day I would see two people flirting in-character in whatever channel they happened to meet in, and it never seemed to be in a roleplay channel- I couldn’t see into NSFW to check if they did it there too, but the fact it would leak out into gen concerned me. They would throw innuendo after innuendo at each other, and they never seemed to stop, or be told to stop. Yes, I could have messaged the moderators to say it made me uncomfy, but one of them was a moderator themselves, so I felt a little out my element doing so. 

Another thing that bothered me is when I tried to join an offshoot of that server for kin, and the admin - I assume - of said offshoot server messaged me (with some other conversation concerning it in between) that, despite the fact I only wanted in to help me figure out what it meant to me, I wasn’t allowed in because somebody was uncomfy with doubles. I completely understand that, but I had spoken to the only person it could have been (I wasn’t given a name, but it wasn’t difficult to figure out who it was) multiple times about that character and how similar we were- hell, we had even roleplayed together as doubles of that character and no problems were ever expressed to me. If anything it seemed like we left off in a spot we could have carried on from later. It might not have been intended that way, but being told I wasn’t allowed in there made me feel excluded from the community nonetheless, especially because I’d had a few people tell me the night before that they wanted more people in there and that I’d be totally welcome. I was also told, before any of this happened, that the same person blocked a friend of mine in another server for going on a small rant about how they didn’t like the way Josuke acted in the episode where he plays dice with Rohan and ends up burning his house down, because they kin Josuke..? At least, that’s what was relayed to me.

But, hey ho, it’s all behind me now. I won’t lie; I don’t really plan on ever going back. I don’t want to engage anymore, because it makes me uncomfortable and anxious thinking about it, so I most likely will unfollow most (if not all) of the blogs pertaining to that community tonight. I do have a few people still there who I miss speaking to, but I’ve DM’d all of them on Discord at least once since I’ve left and talked to them about either how I miss them or something entirely unrelated to the server. I’d like to talk more with them, but DMs are always awkward for me to begin with... I have a feeling they might not want to talk after reading this, and I think I’m ready to accept that? Might be difficult not being able to scream about fanfic as much, but I won’t impose on anyone if my presence makes them uncomfy. I don’t want to be that guy.

I’ll say it again: now that I’ve got this off my chest and subsequently calmed down a lot, I’m more than willing to talk about any of it. Note: I’m not gonna lie, a part of me didn’t want to post the rest of these because of the little anon hate I got. But, I spent hours upon hours writing theses for the KBTBB guys and getting so far along with doing it for the characters from another fandom. A = Aftercare (What they’re like after sex)

He’s a pillow talk kind of guy. There’s just something so comforting and normal about cuddling MC and chatting. When he starts to notice them getting sleepy, or he starts to feel it himself, he’ll ask if they want to shower or just sleep. He likes those little moments, it just feels so perfect and relaxing to him.

He likes his arms, his muscles in general are something he’s proud of. He’s in good shape and is strong enough to protect his MC. He’s thankfully a bit of a natural when he gets together with MC and making them feel good is important to him.

Poor sweet not use to relationships Soryu. While he, like most people, is completely open to different and new positions, he’s a missionary kind of guy. Given his life up until getting with his partner, he just really likes appreciating the simpler and normal aspects of being with someone.

He’s a serious man, he hasn’t exactly indulged  in sex a lot. Sex is something that requires trust and makes you vulnerable, both physically and emotionally. So, he wants it be an incredible romantic experience for his partner. He knows damn well he’s not incredibly experienced and he’s already blown away that his partner love him. So, if something does happen that’s kind of stupid or silly and his partner laughs, he’ll feel a bit inadequate and embarrassed. But, with a little coaxing from his partner, he can accept that silly things happen during sex and it’s not a reflection on his abilities. Then he’ll probably manage to smile and laugh at those moments himself.

H = Hair (How well groomed are they, does the carpet match the drapes, etc.)

Same dark blue-black as his hair. His body hair in general tends to grown in thick, but he keeps it trimmed and a bit neat. It sometimes grows out a bit more before he can get to trimming it down, but generally he prefers a neat appearance.

Despite what an outsider might assume, Soryu is a softie when it comes to MC. He’s a romantic, he and his partner have agreed to be honest with each other; for him a part of that honesty is making sure they know they’re loved. And that include verbally. What a sweetie.

Nope. Self-control is very important as far as Soryu is concerned. Before he got with his partner, he never really bothered to even think about sex all that much. He definitely would get urges every now and then, but he’d just distract himself with some sort of work. Now, that he’s with his partner, he’d rather wait until they can be together. The only situation in which is really masturbates is if his partner is involved in some way.

K = Kink (One or more of their kinks)

Uniforms/Roleplay is one he really likes. He specifically likes them both being in costumes playing out scenarios and when he can wear a uniform of some sort; just give him an excuse to wear a police uniform, please.

He definitely doesn’t own any toys before he gets with MC. Once they’re together it kind of depends on her. He’ll definitely be interested in using toys on his MC, but he wouldn’t bother to buy any until he knows his partner is interested as well. He’d also be cool with his partner using some toys on him.

Not a huge tease (At least compared to the other bidders), but he gets his playful moods and moments where he likes to get his partner worked up for fun. He does get some fun out of when he has to end a makeout/groping sessions and his partner looks so dazed/frustrated. Or when he makes them wait to cum and they get desperate. Honestly, on a normal scale he’d be seen as more of a tease, but the bidders set a new standard in this area.

Definitely a grunter. He’s not super vocal, might say fuck when he cums, or gasp, but that’s about it. He’s not a super loud guy in general and if he does make a louder noise, he’s kind of embarrassed.

Now that he has MC after so long of never caring about relationships, he’s a little touch starved. Just small casual touches mean a lot to him; holding hands, putting his hand on their hip, or brushing their hair back. Despite all of his self-control, it’s incredibly easy for his partner to turn him on. When he’s really pent up even small innocent touches send tingles down his spine.

Soryu is a big guy and everything is proportional. He’s around 8.5-9 inches and decent thickness. A few noticeable and sensitive veins run along it. Curves just a bit to the right. MC definitely needs foreplay and prep work to be able to fully take him

{Mun Note: Did this all the way back in July of 2017 and in January of this year. A lot of things have happened both within the fandom, new characters have been added to the series with new content, and I’ve had some experiences RP wise that impact my stance on shipping with Nappa, so I figured it’d be nice to update this meme!}

WHAT’S YOUR OTP FOR YOUR MUSE?:

Since late February of this year, I finally defined Nappa as a Single-Ship blog. Which means whoever his shipping partner ends up being would be his true OTP on the blog.

At the time of writing this, Nappa is still a single muse, and I still have no OTP for the Nappa I play here on this blog. I do have a crack!ship OTP but that’s for my fanfiction.

For a short time in the Summer of 2017, he had a fun time flirting with and developing a brief crush on someone’s OC named Poharu. Her mun and I had agreed that although they had fun flirtatious chemistry in the threads we had at the time, we both were not interested in doing a ship. Both Poharu and her mun are no longer with us due to their need to focus on real life matters. But she and I still talk once in awhile off Tumblr. I will mention Poharu from time to time when portraying Nappa in his Xenoverse mentor verse because I liked her character and she is fine with it being brought up. Her character was one of the first muses to interact with him in that verse, so naturally she played a part in his character development within that verse’s continuity.

Since Poharu, Nappa has not had strong chemistry with anyone. I have mentioned to someone else that I, the mun, can see potential chemistry with someone else’s muse, but our writing has not taken a romantic turn there. It might never go there either, which is okay with me. :3 Overall, I’m not in a hurry to hook up Nappa.

WHAT ARE YOU WILLING TO RP WHEN IT COMES TO SHIPPING?:

I’m not entirely sure what all will happen if I end up shipping Nappa on this blog. I can only guess at what Nappa will want to do while in a ship or when he feels attraction to another muse. With my headcanons he’s not been in a relationship for at least 20+ years or longer depending on the verse being used in a thread.

I headcanon that Nappa is into tasteful PDA and is affectionate – both verbally, and physically – with women he’s involved with in a romantic way. He’ll have a bit of a Saiyan twist to his affections, but he’s a genuine person with how he feels so that part of his personality can easily lead to romantic fluff once he’s comfortable in a defined relationship. He just might be silly or awkward with it because Saiyans aren’t exactly romantic in conventional ways, especially in the beginning of their relationship. But I swear I will usually play this up for cute and endearing comedy. If things are uncomfortably awkward for either muse, that’s not a good sign and the ship probably isn’t gonna happen unless we figure out how to fix it, if it can be fixed.

Romance will be very experimental, because I headcanon that Nappa’s never been in love romantically (by our definitions) before. Nappa is proven to be capable of unconditional love in canon thanks to a cutscene in Extreme Butoden. It just has to happen with the right person for him, y’know? I’m also not opposed to one-sided feelings on either of our muses’ sides.

Because I’ve spent a lot of my roleplay experience writing Nappa in a situation where he’s left with unresolved anger and bitterness for what happened to him in canon, I’m not up for doing a toxic or unhealthy ship. He wouldn’t be happy, and that wouldn’t be fun for me to write responses for. That isn’t to say that a ship with Nappa wouldn’t have some problems come up, but I’m not gonna go out of my way to ship him with a muse who don’t seem like a good fit. (If it’s not that apparent I’m pretty protective of this muse in many ways.)

 HOW LARGE DOES THE AGE GAP HAVE TO BE TO MAKE IT UNCOMFORTABLE?:

A huge NO on anyone under 18, and even at age 18, that’s really too young for my muse. 20-30 year-olds may even be too young, unless they are mentally mature. Nappa can be childish sometimes, but he’s still a full-grown man who’s about 60 years old (or older depending on the verse) with lots of life-experience. If your muse is young enough to be his kid, that’ll be on his mind. He’s not going to be comfortable with anyone as a love interest if they act overly childish and bratty, especially for little to no reason. He’ll complain about that sort of person if they’re in his presence, even if there’s no shipping potential going on. If your muse acts like a child, he’ll treat her like one.

Age gaps are going to be a thing I have to deal with since few people play muses as old as mine, and if they are older, they don’t look it or act too differently from 15-30 year olds. I’m not fully against age gaps, in fact I think they’re interesting, so long as the characters can respect one another and are even with mental maturity.

Respect and maturity are two key things that have to be there for a ship with Nappa to work. It’s okay if the two bicker at first, or don’t always see eye-to-eye, but they need to get along. There has to be a strong friendship or at the very least some fair amount of kindness from the other person before Nappa can feel any sort of romantic and sexual interest he’ll think about or want to act on.

 ARE YOU SELECTIVE WHEN SHIPPING?:  

Yes, because my muse is selective about who he wants to be with, and I don’t want to force him into a ship for the sake of shipping. 

Nappa has an elitist attitude, and because he’s never experienced romantic love, he observes male-female relationships with the perspective of if he and the woman in question will make desirable children, and if she’ll make a good mother. That is just how his mentality works. It would take a lot of chemistry and a woman with a lot of desirable personality traits to make him overlook some of his hang-ups. The woman has to get to know and accept who Nappa is IC – the good and the bad – in consistent roleplay threads.

If things are rushed, there’s a high chance Nappa won’t feel the same interest as your muse and he’ll friend zone her. (But that’s not always bad because remember there has to be friendship before anything more can happen.) But it will make both of us feel uncomfortable TBH unless we’ve planned OOC for there to be one-sided feelings for a time.

In general, I’m still not actively looking for a ship to happen with Nappa on this blog. But if a ship happens it’d be a pleasant surprise.

 HOW FAR DO STEAMY MOMENTS HAVE TO GO BEFORE THEY’RE CONSIDERED NSFW?:

When it comes to talking, anything that starts to get dirty with graphic sexual activity details is what I’d consider NSFW.  Detailed descriptions of sexualized body parts, groping/stroking of genitals or breasts are things I consider NSFW. Also detailed sexual fantasy thoughts and emotions felt during physical activity can be too. Basically if you could get into trouble for getting caught reading it at work, or I don’t think the content is suitable for minors to be reading, I’d consider it NSFW, tag it accordingly, and may even use the Keep Reading cut.

Blatantly stating things like: sex, penis, vagina, kinky, “let’s fuck” or other such things, I wouldn’t think are worth labeling and tagging. Grabbing, smacking, or rubbing a butt isn’t NSFW to me unless said butt is bare and/or the muses are starting to do something sexual in nature.

 WHO ARE OTHER MUSES YOU SHIP YOUR MUSE WITH?: At the moment there is no ship for my muse with another muse. (He would only have one because his blog is single-ship.) @cruciatusxcervus has mentioned having an interest in shipping with Nappa, and she is currently involved with my other muse, Raditz. I’ve already mentioned that I’d need to see chemistry build up between the muses in our threads before confirming if a ship can happen or not. (And I’ve been on a hiatus for this blog this past Summer so the two still are only acquaintances as of writing this.) I mentioned to @ayekanaru months ago that I could see potential for a ship with our muses, but our writing has not gone in that direction, and she’s been on hiatus too. The chemistry they have as friends is very nice so if they stay that way it would be fine with me.  

DOES ONE HAVE TO ASK TO SHIP WITH YOU?:  

YES! OOC communication is important if you would like a ship to happen. Decent communication about our muses and the direction of our threads can help out a lot. It won’t guarantee that a ship will happen but it does more good than harm. (Unless I’ve already expressed that I don’t want to ship with you and your muse.)

I’m fine with playing things by ear, but this can also lead to our characters saying or doing things that might piss each other off and make it harder for a ship to happen.

I can’t be the only one putting in the work either. If you’re not going to put in any effort – be it IC and/or OOC – then you probably don’t care that much about it, and I’m not going to either.

HOW OFTEN DO YOU LIKE TO SHIP?:

Whenever I see potential chemistry. With Nappa, I’ve only seen natural chemistry happen like…once in all my years of roleplaying him.

Not kidding when I say he’s hard to ship with.

 ARE YOU MULTISHIP?:

Not on this blog. For Nappa, I decided months ago that single-ship is what’s best for him.

I’m not against multiship blogs. However as I am multiship with Raditz, I have seen and dealt with the kinds of complications having multiple ships with others can create. There are more demanding expectations for thread responses, comparisons between shipping partners, and it can also bring out the worst in people who can’t control their jealousy/envy. Honestly, shipping drama between multiship blogs is a big reason why Nappa is single-ship along with how picky he and I are for a shipping partner for him.

 ARE YOU SHIP OBSESSED OR SHIP MORE-OR-LESS?:

I love shipping and crack!shipping with fandom stuff. When it comes to roleplay though, I like when ships happen naturally. It’s a fun surprise! If ships happen, they happen! Though I will admit, when I feel a lot of investment in ship I will be enthusiastic about working on it. 

I used to have a healthy interest in shipping, but I’m noticing that I’m becoming more protective and guarded, especially with my Nappa muse. I worry that I come off as too negative about it, even though I’m just sticking up for both his interests, and my own for him.

I’ve been through a lot of negative experiences regarding shipping in the last two years. I do my best to be very considerate of others’ feelings to avoid force-shipping from my end too. A ship between fictional characters is never more important to me than an IRL friendship or rp partnership.

 WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE SHIP IN YOUR CURRENT FANDOM?:  

I do vicariously enjoy Raditz x Nappa (when they’re both adults) because of one of my friend’s older content. But outside of their stuff, the ship isn’t something that tickles my fancy much. In general though, I don’t *personally* see him having a lot of chemistry with other dudes.

For the heterosexual side of things, I didn’t used to see any canon women from DBZ who would be good with Nappa either. And I’ve seen some things. (It’s all pretty awful too, even if there could have been some good potential.) I will admit that Nappa x Android 21 is the closest thing to a canon character pairing I see happening, but I’m more in favor of a partnerSHIP rather than a romantic relationSHIP. (I wouldn’t want to ship it for RP either honestly. It’d be too unhealthy for my liking. I’d rather write my own one-shot or a brief fic if I get an itch for it. There’s nothing for it out there on the internet either, so it all pretty much happens in my head. Something I’m all too used to for a lot of my ships.)

TBH I’m more open to crossover ships or OC ships with Nappa. (Just please no Nappa x Ami…just no. That’s a NOTP for both Muse and Mun.)

 FINALLY, HOW DOES ONE SHIP WITH YOU?:

Talk to me about it and also roleplay for awhile with me and my muse before deciding if you really want to ship with us. As I’ve mentioned before, because of my headcanons and who Nappa is, he’s not really an easy person to ship with.
